Battlefield Bad Company 2: Vietnam Review

DICE has outdone themselves once again. It is almost crazy that they have set such a high standard for themselves yet fortunate that they continue to meet and exceed our expectations. Battlefield Bad Company 2 gives us a realistic and group-oriented shooter that provides hours and hours of warfare. The new Vietnam expansion gives a unique experience by taking you back to a time without red dot sites and advanced tank warfare. You are still given the original 4 class choices(Assault, Engineer, Medic, Recon) but with more simplified weapons with iron-sights and less accuracy, providing once again a realistic FPS experience.
This expansion being purely multiplayer gives us a chance to focus on the more detailed aspects of this fun new add-on to our beloved Bad Co. 2. This expansion still includes the previous mutliplayer game-types such as rush and conquest. There are 5 new maps to play all of which are styled much differently than the base-game. Whereas the original multiplayer maps were mostly flat with some hill-terrain, this new content is a gauntlet of cliffs and ravines that make the game a different experience than we’re used to with Bad Co 2. This pretty new expansion also comes with 10 new achievements for all you achievement seekers out there. These new maps aren’t the only thing new. The game also comes with a 60’s soundtrack to give it that Vietnam feeling.
For all you old-school Battlefield players, there are cool new vehicles to wreck face with. The first vehicle I tried out was the T54 tank. Good ol’ fashioned ownage was had and it was just as much fun as the M3A3 Bradley from the base game. More devastation can be wrought with the Huey Helicopter and there sure is nothing like flying over Charlie’s position, raining death from above. So yes my fellow soldiers, vehicle combat is very much alive in this sweet new expansion. However, I do suppose it would have been nice to throw in a bit of Napalm.
Overall I must say that this new expansion is worth your $15 or £10 for you UK gamers. The Vietnam expansion does a great job of throwing you in the midst of gritty warfare with chaos all around. DICE has yet to do wrong by me and I’m glad that this is no exception. So if you feel like stepping into your jump boots and taking a trip to the 60’s to fight in an iconic war scenario with fantastic graphics and enticing gameplay, this review is for you. Otherwise, you can go back to playing “Kinectimals” or “The Sims” and leave the gaming to the big boys.
Rating 9 out of 10.
