Outlaws To The End DLC Review
June 30th, 2010In Red Dead Redemption’s newest DLC, titled “Outlaws To The End” you and up to three other people can play through 6 co-op missions. Even though the title itself implies that you will be on the opposite end of the law, not all of the missions contain dastardly deeds in which you kill for money or rob the innocent. So don’t worry if you’re the do gooder type you’ll be able to have fun with it and not feel completely guilty.
When Kevin and I (JT) first attempted to try the DLC there were constant server errors. Every time we tried loading into a game it would automatically fail or we would get stuck in the pre-game room with a “til game starts” timer stuck at zero. It wasn’t until a couple days after the first day of release that we were able to successfully get in and not have any problems. I’m accounting this to the possibility that there were probably just to many people trying to get on at once and it caused server overloads or something of that nature.
When we were finally able to get on though it was worth the wait, especially since it was a free download. Outlaws To The End does nothing short of continuing the awesome experience that is Red Dead Redemption, but in co-op mode. With 10 new achievements (thats an extra 100 gamer points for you fanatics out there), hours of gameplay, and two difficulties to run the missions on you’re definitely getting more than you DIDN’T pay for.
The only downside for the co-op is that you’re not able to use your own weapons that you’ve spent time collecting in the free roaming mode. Before entering each co-op mission you’re brought to an outpost where you are surrounded by four mannequins (if you’d really like to call them that) and each one represents a weapons class for you to choose from. The idea isn’t terrible and its helpful if you’ve just started your online experience and don’t have any decent weapons. But I’ve grown partial to my Evans Repeater and Cattle Revolver and don’t feel like having to pick one over the other.
With all that said I’m giving the Red Dead Redemption: Outlaws To The End DLC a 9 out of 10. It’s free, its fun, and it doesn’t ruin the game. What more can you ask for? Okay maybe some sort of idiot filter so you don’t get stuck with the guys that run around constantly dieing stopping you from getting the “bulletproof” or “friends indeed” achievement because you keep dieing trying to revive his sorry ass… but we can’t have everything.
Download, and enjoy!
